When I purchased my 1992 Jaguar XJS, the drivers seat had quite a few cracks in the leather so to even the wear, I swapped the leather over between the 2 front seats.  A while later I looked into what could be done to repair the cracking on the now passenger seat.

I found the website www.furnitureclinic.co.uk that has a range of products for repairing leather.  After spending some time reading, I bought their “Custom Colour Standard Complete Leather Repair Kit”, thinking that it will have everything I need to repair the cracking.  This kit allowed me to specify the colour code of my car seats, which is Jaguar Doeskin AEE.

The first thing that the instructions said was to clean the entire panel with one of their products that was not in the kit, not a good start.

The next step was to use the “leather prep pad” to remove any silicone products.  Unfortunately only a single pad is provided in the kit which quickly dried out and disintegrated.

The next step was to use their “heavy filler” to fill all the cracks.  This is done by adding a number of thin coats, then sanding it flat with the provided small square of ‘wet and dry’ paper.  Fortunately there was plenty of filler to fill all the cracks.

I then masked all the leather that didn’t need painting and gave the seat a wipe with a tac rag to pick up any debris.

The final step was to apply a number of coats of the supplied paint to the the seat cushion.  This was done using a dabbing motion using the supplied sponge.  Overall the results were good.  The colour wasn’t a bad match for the seat.  Supplied in the kit is a number of bottles of different coloured dyes which allow you to tint the paint.  To get a better match I may try adding a small amount of black dye to slightly darken the supplied doeskin paint and then apply another coat.

I will update this page with more pictures after the seat has had some use.
