WELCOME

The flash on my Nikon D200 started behaving erratically, flashing at random times.  It appeared to be caused by a bad connection on the hot shoe.

While doing some research on the internet, I found that a number of people were experiencing the same problem.  The general opinion was that the flash was able to wobble about too much, due to play on the hot shoe.

One person suggested bending the tabs on the hot shoe using a hammer.  I decided that this may not be the best way to approach the problem.

I instead opted to use a clamp to slightly bend the tabs without shocking the camera internals.  Since the body is made from aluminium it appeared to be able to take the necessary force without causing any damage.  However I still don’t recommend anyone else does this.

I am pleased to say that the problem I was experiencing with the flash has now gone.
