The ball joint gaiter on my mate’s 1997 Land Rover Defender 90 steering drop arm kept separating from the arm, leaving the ball joint exposed.  He tried putting a new gaiter on, but this still came off.  The ball joint then started to show signs of wear.

We have ordered a new drop arm complete with ball joint.  Before it arrives, we have made sure we can get the old one off.  We used a two leg puller, which got a good grip on the lugs on the old arm, but even after shocking the arm with a hammer, it would not separate.  I ended up using my arc brazing torch to heat the arm, the arm then separated with an audible crack.
