Things were going on behind the number plate of my XJ-S, the extent of which was only realised when I took the number plate off the car. Serious rust had been developing around the screws that fastened the number plate to the car. I used my air powered hack saw to cut all the rust away, leaving these two rather large holes.
I made a paper template by drawing around each hole and then used the templates to cut out pieces of steel the exact size to fit in each of the holes.
I used a couple of magnets to hold each of the steel discs while I welded them in place. The photo shows the boot ready for painting. I made sure that the area was well rust proofed before the number plate was refitted.
